BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. — As another school year approaches, residents of the Macedonia community will have an opportunity to hear directly from the leaders of their neighborhood schools and learn how they can help shape student success.
The Macedonia Community Action Project (CAP) is inviting the public to a special back-to-school meeting on Tuesday, July 28, at 6:30 p.m., featuring H.E. Bonner Elementary Principal Mike Shaw and Macedonia Middle School Principal Don Walton. The event will be held at Victory Baptist Church, 1120 Mail Route Road in Bonneau.

Parents, grandparents, students, church members, local businesses and other community supporters are encouraged to attend as the two principals discuss plans for the upcoming school year, initiatives taking place on their campuses and ways the Macedonia community can partner with schools to help students succeed.
The event comes just days after Berkeley County School District introduced Shaw as the new principal of H.E. Bonner Elementary.
Shaw brings 36 years of experience with Berkeley County School District, where he has spent his entire education career. He began teaching at Macedonia Middle School in 1990, teaching math, science and social studies before becoming assistant principal at Berkeley Intermediate School — now Moncks Corner Elementary — and later serving as the school’s principal beginning in 2008.
“It is an honor to return to the Macedonia area as the Principal of H.E. Bonner Elementary,” Shaw said in announcing his new role. “I look forward to serving this incredible community with passion, integrity and unwavering commitment to every child’s success.”
Families who are unable to attend Tuesday’s CAP meeting will have another opportunity to meet Shaw during H.E. Bonner Elementary’s “Popcorn with the Principal” event on Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The casual, drop-in event will allow parents and students to meet the school’s new principal before classes begin. Walton, who serves as principal of Macedonia Middle School, oversees students in grades sixth through eighth and will also share updates on the middle school’s plans for the coming year.
Organizers say the Macedonia CAP meeting is designed to strengthen connections between schools and the community and encourage residents to become active partners in supporting the next generation of students.
