BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–According to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, at 2:30 a.m. on Valentine’s Day a sedan was traveling on Clements Ferry Road in Berkeley County when it ran off the left side of the roadway and struck several trees.
The passenger, 23-year-old William James Detyens III of Charleston was pronounced dead at the scene by Chief Deputy Coroner George Oliver.
The driver was transported to MUSC and his condition is unknown.
Detyens was trapped in the vehicle and was extricated by the fire dept. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The death is ruled accidental and was investigated by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the S C Highway Patrol.
