HANAHAN, S.C. — Hanahan Middle School revealed its long‑awaited renovation last Thursday evening, drawing a large crowd of students, families, and community members eager to see the school’s dramatic transformation ahead of the upcoming academic year.

The ribbon‑cutting ceremony marked the completion of a multi‑year modernization project led by Berkeley County School District, designed to support the school’s rapidly growing student population. Construction began during the 2024–2025 school year, forcing students and staff to operate from a temporary modular campus at Hanahan Elementary while crews worked to overhaul the main building.

District leaders and construction officials broke ground on the project in March 2025. The newly renovated facility will officially open its doors to students on the first day of school this August.

A First Look Inside

Following the ceremony, visitors were invited to walk the main level hallways and explore the updated interior for the first time. The turnout was strong, with families lining up to tour classrooms, common areas, and redesigned learning spaces built to accommodate the school’s expanding enrollment.

Because Hanahan Middle is one of three BCSD schools home to the district’s “Hawks,” the celebration carried a fitting theme. The Center for Birds of Prey was on site with a live red‑tailed hawk, offering students a close‑up look at the bird and sharing its ecological importance.

The renovation marks a major milestone for the Hanahan community, which has watched the project progress for more than a year. With construction now complete, the school is poised to begin the new year with upgraded facilities, expanded space, and a fresh start for students and staff.
