MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — A 21-year-old Moncks Corner man was killed Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Highway 52 and Cypress Gardens Road, according to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office said it was notified of the fatal crash at approximately 7:50 a.m. on June 18.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the collision and was later identified as DaMell R. Scott, 21, of Moncks Corner.

The fatal crash occurred shortly before 8 a.m. and prompted a response from multiple public safety agencies.
According to an earlier statement from the Moncks Corner Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 7:38 a.m. after receiving reports of a motor vehicle versus pedestrian collision along U.S. Highway 52.
When first responders arrived, they located an adult pedestrian who had died at the scene.
Emergency personnel from Berkeley County EMS, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, Moncks Corner Fire & Rescue and the Moncks Corner Police Department responded to the incident.
The Moncks Corner Police Department and Berkeley County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time,” Moncks Corner Police Chief Antwan Richardson said in an earlier statement.
“We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.”
Authorities have not yet released details about what led to the collision, whether the pedestrian was crossing the roadway at the time, or if any charges are being considered.
