BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Earlier this year, American LaFrance abruptly closed for business, putting approximately 200 people out of work and an enormous amount of tax debt to the county. According to Berkeley Co. Supervisor Dan Davis, the county has also had to foot the bill for the former company’s monthly lease.
To hopefully recuperate the money, the county will be auctioning off the assets belonging to American LaFrance. For more than a century, it was a major manufacturer of fire, rescue and vocational vehicles throughout the tricounty and globally.
The public auction will take place on June 11th at 9:00 a.m. at 164 Spring Grove Drive in Moncks Corner. An Ohio company, Cincinnati Industrial Auctioneers, will head the upcoming auction. According to its website, CIA is considered a nationwide provider of asset disposition, auction and appraisal services.
The auction will include a wide array of items up for bid including but not limited to: office equipment, maintenance personnel vehicles, cafeteria equipment, machinery, vehicle lifts and much more. To view the entire list of items up for auction, click here.
