GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – The Goose Creek Police Department said its received an increased amount of complaints in reference to people fishing in ponds that are clearly marked “no fishing.”
“While this may seem minor to some, it is not minor to the people that own the property that is being walked through, having trash left on, and are being disturbed, simply to commit another illegal act,” the police department posted to its Facebook page on Thursday.
While critics argue that the act is “harmless” or “no big deal,” the police department said it disagrees.
“We want everyone to know that we do not pick and choose what laws we enforce. If people are violating the law, we are going to take the appropriate action,” police warned.
Police added that they do not enforce “no fishing” signs on HOA-owned ponds.
“We do, however, respond and enforce the “no fishing” signs on the ponds that are owned by the city,” the police department said.
