The fatal accident reportedly took place in the plant’s melting shop.

According to Berkeley Co. Coroner Bill Salisbury, 44-year-old Cisco Agbunag of Goose Creek was seriously injured after a large piece of equipment fell on him.  He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Following the accident, workers say the plant shut down around 3 p.m.

This is the second death at Nucor Steel already this year.

In February 2014, an employee died in a train accident at the steel company’s facility in Hickman, Arkansas.

Nucor Steel’s vice president is expected to release a statement on the Huger accident sometime Friday.

According to workers, the employee had worked at the Berkeley Co. facility for approximately 18 years and leaves behind a wife and children.

Berkeley Co. Coroner Bill Salisbury has not released the victim’s name at this time.

OSHA is expected to be at the plant tomorrow to investigate.
