MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — Police have identified and charged a suspect in a shooting at a Bojangles restaurant in Moncks Corner, as new details reveal the victim has since been treated and released from the hospital.
Officers with the Moncks Corner Police Department responded to reports of gunfire on April 18 at the Bojangles located at 2711 Highway 52. When officers arrived, they found a victim suffering from injuries that were initially described as non-life-threatening.
According to an updated statement from Police Chief Antwan Richardson, the victim was transported to a local hospital, treated, and has since been released.
Authorities quickly identified the suspect as Isaiah Shakiem Bailey, who was located and taken into custody without incident. Bailey has been charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature (ABHAN), and officials say additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
“I want to commend our officers for their professionalism and rapid response, and thank the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office for their continued partnership and assistance,” Richardson said in a statement.
Officials emphasized that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
“Acts of violence in our community will not be tolerated,” Richardson said. “Moncks Corner Police will hold offenders accountable and ensure the safety of residents and visitors.”
The Moncks Corner Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
