BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–According to a Berkeley Co. School District spokesperson, three schools were placed on a brief administrative lockdown from approximately 12:00 to 12:15 p.m.
The schools were Westview Primary, Westview Elementary and Westview Middle Schools.
District leaders say this was done as a precautionary measure while law enforcement officers were pursuing a wanted subject near the consolidated campus.
“There was no direct threat to any of the schools and they have all returned to their regular schedule,” stated spokesperson Chip Sturgis.
District leaders emphasized that their top priority is student safety, welfare and security.
The district continues to improve its physical security equipment and procedures to ensure students have a safe learning environment.
