GOOSE CREEK, S.C.—The 2014 election for South Carolina’s GOP race could get interesting. Nancy Mace, the first female graduate of the Citadel and a small business woman, will formally announce her plans to run for the seat currently held by longtime, outspoken U.S. senator Lindsey Graham.
Graham was elected to the Senate in 2002 and reelected in 2008. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1994 as the first Republican from the Third Congressional District of South Carolina since 1877.
Mace, who grew up in Berkeley County, is a newcomer to the political realm. She holds a masters degree in mass communication from the University of Georgia. She is also the author of the book, ‘The Company of Men: A Woman at the Citadel.’
She is scheduled to announce her plans at the Berkeley County GOP breakfast on August 3, 2013. Her appearance will take place at the American Legion Post on Howe Hall Road in Goose Creek.
