MONCKS CORNER, S.C.—Moncks Corner’s first stand-alone Chick-Fil-A restaurant officially opened early Thursday morning, bringing 80 new jobs to the area.
Excited about the opening, dozens of people camped outside in the restaurant’s parking lot for a chance to get free food. Dennis Green of Ridgeville was one of them.
“I consider myself Chick-Fil-A’s number one fan,” he added. “They have the best customer service in the world.”
Grace Mitchum of Cross was one of the many people who braved the chilly temperatures and rain for a chance to be one of the first 100 people inside the restaurant to receive free food for a year.
“The rain was coming down so hard at one point, my tent collapsed on us,” stated Mitchum. “I love Chick-Fil-A.”
The restaurant chain’s ‘First 100’ event awarded more than $32,000 in free food. Justin Clark, the restaurant’s operator and owner, personally handed guests a digital card loaded with a one-year supply of free Chick-Fil-A meals.
“My wife, Jenny, and I are excited to be back home in the lowcountry opening Chick-Fil-A in Moncks Corner,” he stated. “There’s been a lot of buzz in the community, a lot of excitement everywhere from Berkeley High School to Santee Cooper to the Walmart next door.”
According to Clark, the community has been very welcoming of the area’s newest restaurant.
“I was at Walmart checking out, and a nice lady saw my name tag and she said, ‘Oh, Lord you’re with Chick-Fil-A,’ and she gave me a big hug. I felt at home with my people,” added Clark.
Born and raised in the lowcountry, Clark is a graduate of Summerville High School. After attending the College of Charleston, he attended the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where he received his masters in divinity.
“My Chick-Fil-A story began in 2006 at the Mount Pleasant location where I was a manager for two years,” stated Clark.
Clark stated that he was then given the opportunity to help expand the Chick-Fil-A brand in Bakersfield, California as well as in the rest of the state which included assisting with the much anticipated Hollywood location in Los Angeles.
“I was selected as an operator by Truett’s grandson, Andrew Cathy, so it was a great honor there and a privilege to help the brand grow in an unestablished market, but what a great opportunity for me to come home to the lowcountry to be back with my people, to open this store that I have literally prayed over this property since 2010,” stated Clark.
The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., serving a full breakfast menu until 10:30 a.m. Like all Chick-Fil-A restaurants, it will be closed on Sunday.
