MONCKS CORNER, S.C.—Today Mayor William W. Peagler III announced that many Moncks Corner homeowners and commercial property owners are now eligible for lowered insurance premiums.

According to Marc Hehn, the town’s administrator, the Insurance Services Office (ISO) recently sent a letter to town officials and notified them that the town’s investments in fire suppression efforts are paying off.

Hehn stated that Moncks Corner Fire Chief David Miller, Moncks Corner Water Commission Manager Mr. Bobby Wall and staff from Berkeley County Water and Sanitation completed a comprehension inspection/survey performed by the ISO to evaluate fire suppression, water supply systems and emergency dispatch resources of the community. Upon the completion of the survey, the Town of Moncks Corner earned a strong ISO community rating of a 3.

“Our efforts to prevent and reduce fire damage to residential and commercial property is one of our fire department’s long-standing goals,” stated Mayor Peagler. “Nationwide of the 49,000 fire departments evaluated only 2,410 have achieved this rating. We are very proud of this achievement. This success was only possible through the dedication and hard work of the Town of Moncks Corner Fire Department and its staff.”

ISO rates communities from 1-10 with a 1 rating “being exemplary and a rating of 10 representing less than the minimum recognized protection. This number is one of several elements considered in the calculation individual property insurance premium by most insurance companies.

Here are some general guidelines to help property owners understand the benefits of improved rating for residents and businesses:

  • Rating may affect availability and/or pricing for a variety of personal and commercial coverage.
  • Assuming all other factors are equal, the price of property insurance in a community with a good PPC is lower than in a community with a poor PPC.

Mayor Peagler added that this new rating reaffirms his commitment to public safety. They mayor is encouraging citizens to contact their insurance provider to determine if the new rating qualifies them for reduced insurance premiums.
