BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Two detectives from Tennessee have been traveling back and forth to Berkeley County, looking for clues into the disappearance of China Videon.
“She was a normal 16-year-old girl. She had a job. She was working to pay for a car that she bought for herself. She lived at home with her mother and her sister,” Detective Steve Craig told WCBD-TV.
According to authorities, Videon was last seen in her hometown of Christiana, Tennessee on October 19, 1999. She visited with her mother that very night at a beauty salon in Jackson Heights Plaza before leaving to see a friend.
Deputies say she may have been accompanied by an adult male.
The teen’s car was found abandoned eight months later at an apartment complex off Harding Road in Antioch. Authorities believe China was abducted, killed and disposed of by someone who knew her well.
“I think she was murdered by somebody that she knew,” Suzanne Videon, the teen’s mom, told WSMV-TV.
Detectives think one of the suspects, known only as “T.J.,” has been living in Goose Creek. They say he also now works at a big box store as a manager on James Island.
“He has told and confided in people in the past about this incident. And we have reason to believe that he has confided with people here In the Lowcountry. We would love to find those people and get any information they may have that can help us bring this case to a resolution,” stated Craig.
Investigators say another suspect named “Chris” now lives in Alabama.
If anyone has any information about this case, they are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111. Callers can remain anonymous and possibly qualify for a cash reward.
Videon was legally declared dead in October 2007.
