BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has identified the driver killed when his SUV collided with an Amtrak train Monday night near Goose Creek.

Coroner Darnell Hartwell said Billy Branham, 24, of Summerville died at Trident Hospital as a result of his injuries.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Branham was driving a 2008 Ford SUV on Medway Road when he pulled out in front of an Amtrak and was struck around 10 p.m.

“No one on the train was injured, and the train stayed on the tracks,” SCHP Master Trooper Mitchell R. Ridgeway said.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating.
