MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism (SCPRT) has named Explore Berkeley County a partner in Discover South Carolina’s Front Porch Program.

The Front Porch Program connects local visitor centers and destination marketing organizations in small towns and big cities all over the state with South Carolina’s bustling state-operated Welcome Centers and the powerful Discover South Carolina brand. The program was created to help local entities amplify their reach to attract more visitation.

“Berkeley County is excited for this opportunity to be a partner in the State Welcome Center’s Front Porch Program,” said Rachel Knight, Tourism Director of Explore Berkeley County, SC. “Becoming a certified Welcome Center strengthens not only our county’s visibility and economic growth, but the entire state as a desirable destination to explore. We have seen a positive ROI in working closely with our local Santee Welcome Center to improve the visitor experience when arriving in the Santee Cooper Country region of the state.”

Certified Front Porch program participants share information, promote special events, and provide SCPRT with up-to-date information about their destinations. This allows SCPRT’s nine Welcome Centers to share the latest and greatest information available about our destinations with our millions of visitors, helping increase visitation to those areas and improving visitor experience upon arrival. Program members receive an official window cling and certificate to promote their participation in the program; bulk copies of state maps and the Discover South Carolina Vacation Guide; and access to special training and events hosted by SCPRT’s expert travel staff.

From the heart of the Lowcountry, Explore Berkeley County highlights the area’s spectacular natural assets, long history, abundant outdoor recreation, and endless charm to attract visitors and boost the local economy. Honoring their county tagline, Rich History, Bright Future, One Berkeley, Berkeley’s newly-opened Welcome Center is located inside the 1725 historic Nesbitt House at 1004 Old Highway 52 in Moncks Corner, and they recently celebrated a record number of visitors to the local Cypress Gardens in the previous fiscal year.
