BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – There are many adorable pups and kitties at Berkeley Animal Center in desperate need of forever homes. Each week, The Berkeley Observer highlights some of those pets that would love for you to give them a family to call their own.

Space at the shelter in Moncks Corner is often at max capacity. When you adopt or foster, you create additional space for the shelter to take in more pets, resulting in more lives saved.

Here is a list of animals at the shelter currently up for adoption for Jan. 12, 2024. For a complete list of adoptable animals, visit this link.

1. Gator (Age: Unknown)

Gator is a dog that is impossible not to fall in love with. Since he’s been in fostering, he has shown that he could truly belong anywhere. This easygoing dude gets along with dogs, people, and although he hasn’t been tested, probably cats, too. He couldn’t hurt a fly. He is fully potty trained and sleeps in the kennel at night quietly.

Gator is being fostered by a certified dog trainer, Leah, who works at No Xcuses K9 in Summerville. She is bringing him to work with her everyday and he has now been fully trained. This includes loose leash walking, place, sit stay, come, and many house manners. If you choose to adopt Gator, he will be included with a couple lessons from Leah on how to keep up with his already-learned skills. What better than adopting a fully trained dog?!

He truly is such a gentle giant. He enjoys sunbathing, hiking, and especially snuggling on the couch, but if you don’t want him on furniture, he has learned “down” to get off when asked. He will make such a great companion for anyone.

Adopt this sweet boy and you will feel like the luckiest person alive!

Polly is 1 year old and has been looking for a forever home since September. She is potty trained, kennel trained, loves children and all people. She also toys, especially tennis balls and the only thing that she does not like is cats inside the house.

She loves to sleep in the bed with you and lay on her back like a human with her head on the pillow next to you.

6. Snow (Age: Unknown)

Snow is looking for a new forever home (she is not spayed yet, but will be!)

She’s probably 25-30 pounds, but she seems like a small dog. All she wants to do is sleep on the couch and cuddle all day. She’s super cat-friendly and has gotten along with every dog she’s been introduced to her, too (she can be a little bossy about her space, which is fair).

She’s gone to the mall, to the park, out to eat at a restaurant and has done amazing. She will bark in the house if she hears something outside and will bark for a second in you leave her, however, it stops very quickly. She adores kids so much and loves people. Sometimes she can shy away from new people but warms up quickly with a treat or pet. All this dog wants is to be next to a person all day.

This is a well-rounded and easy dog. If you know someone looking for an easy keeper and an easy dog to add to their household look no further. She is the perfect size and temperament to fit into just about any situation. Apartment, other dogs, other pets, kids, older folks, etc etc. The best part is the face she makes when you get home, you’ll fall in love with.

7. Splash
