BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–United States Senator Tim Scott administered the oath of office Friday for new Berkeley County Supervisor Bill Peagler at a public ceremony inside council chambers.
Peagler thanked Senator Scott for his “leadership in serving the great people of our state with limited government principles” and said that “is exactly the type of leadership I will provide as Supervisor.”
The former Moncks Corner mayor also shared several of his goals for the county including his plan to “restructure county government, streamline and eliminate duplicate agencies and processes, speed up the planning and permitting process, and make government smaller and more inviting to our residents.”
As county supervisor, Peagler stated that he plans to practice fiscal responsibility, reducing business regulations and promoting private-public partnerships.
“By getting government out of the way – our small businesses and job-creators will have less government red-tape to cut through, have more time to grow their businesses and have more resources to hire new employees,” stated Peagler. “And by cutting the size and cost of county government, we can hold the line or cut taxes so families can keep more of their hard-earned money and invest it in our local economy.”
During the swearing in ceremony, the newly-elected county supervisor also stated that he hopes to work with the school district to help improve education in Berkeley County.
“For too long, county government has worked against – not with – the Berkeley County School Board,” he stated. ” Those days are done. Just as I plan to run my entire administration as a true team effort, we will work with the school board as a team to ensure successes for our students, parents and teachers.”
Next on Peagler’s agenda will be to improving, he says, public safety.
“One of our most immediate action plans is to properly equip our public safety and first responders with all of the necessary tools and resources to be the most efficient and cost-effective they can possible be. Doing so will not only make our neighborhoods safer, but it will also give our residents better emergency care,” he stated. “I want to note that I fully support a new hospital in upper Berkeley County and hope to see its approval.”
Peagler ended his speech by stated that he plans to work on building a closer relationship with the residents of Berkeley County.
“We will work tirelessly to improve your trust in government by providing transparency, ethical leadership and accountability for the people, by the people,” he stated. “We are going to work together as a team with County Council, leadership staff, county employees, municipalities and, most importantly, with you – the people of Berkeley County, to accomplish our goals.”
