earthday2“Most people may not even be aware that Santee Cooper has an environmental policy and the goal of trying to increase the awareness internally at Santee Cooper and externally. Santee Cooper has always been a leader environmentally, but we haven’t always done a good job of letting people know everything we’re involved in,” stated Tom Kierspe, Vice President of Environment, Property and Water System Management, Santee Cooper.

More than 1,500 employees in the Moncks Corner area will had a chance to learn more about how they can make a personal impact on the environment.

“Our employees are so busy trying to keep the lights on, I think a lot of folks don’t realize how much we do to protect the environment,” stated Brian Holmes, Director of Environmental Management System, Santee Cooper.

There was also a recycling component that benefited many charitable organizations, like ‘Cellphones for Soldiers’ and Soles4Souls.

“We are collecting used towels, sheets and blankets that will be located to the local SPCA. We’re taking up used eyeglasses that will go to The Lion’s Club that will recycle those,” stated Smith.
