BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. — A boil water advisory impacting thousands of Berkeley County residents has been lifted after water quality tests confirmed the system is safe, officials announced.

The advisory had been issued for approximately 4,200 customers served by Berkeley County Water and Sanitation following a water line break beneath the Tail Race Canal.

Officials say repair work has been completed and water samples have returned with “great results,” clearing the system for normal use.

Residents in affected areas — including Bonneau, St. Stephen, Shulerville/Honey Hill, Macedonia, Cainhoy, Huger and parts of the Nucor Steel area — no longer need to boil water before drinking, cooking or other household use.

The advisory had been issued as a precaution after the break created the potential for pressure loss in the system, which can increase the risk of contamination.

Officials emphasized at the time that the advisory did not confirm contamination but was meant to protect public health.

BCWS will notify impacted customers directly that the advisory has been lifted using the contact information associated with their accounts.

Authorities say service has now returned to normal and residents can safely resume everyday water use.
