MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — The Town of Moncks Corner is grieving the loss of Dylan Carter, a gifted singer whose voice and spirit touched countless lives across the Lowcountry. Carter died in a car accident over the weekend, leaving behind a legacy of music, faith, and community connection that resonated far beyond the stage.
Mayor Thomas Hamilton shared the news in a heartfelt post Sunday, calling Carter “much more than an entertainer — he was our friend.” Hamilton said Carter’s performances at town events brought joy to residents and his kindness earned deep respect throughout the community. “Our family is heartbroken,” the mayor wrote. “His absence will be deeply felt.”
Local businesses and schools joined in honoring Carter’s memory. That’s My Dawg, a Moncks Corner restaurant where Carter was scheduled to perform Thursday, announced it will donate 10 percent of that day’s sales to his family. Owner Graylnn Moran Jr. invited the community to gather in celebration of Carter’s life, saying, “Your support would mean a great deal to us and would help honor Dylan’s impact on our community.”
At Stirred By God bakery in Moncks Corner, a tribute posted Monday reflected on Carter’s calming presence and the peace his music brought to local events. “When Dylan sang, everything seemed to settle,” the post read. “There was a peace in his voice that brought a calm I can’t quite explain.” The bakery’s owner encouraged residents to pray for Carter’s loved ones, writing, “His voice may be quiet here now, but what he gave will not be forgotten.”
Dorchester Academy, where Carter graduated in 2020, remembered him as an honor student, athlete, and performer whose “infectious grin” and “heart of gold” defined his time there. The school noted his recent visit to sing for younger students, saying, “We will never forget Dylan. Go rest high on that mountain.”
Carter’s talent reached national audiences when he appeared on NBC’s The Voice, where country music star Reba McEntire served as his coach. McEntire shared her own tribute on social media, writing, “We will miss Dylan so much. He was a brilliant, kind and talented young man who brought a huge ray of sunshine to The Voice. Rest in peace, my dear friend.”
Across Moncks Corner, tributes continue to pour in — from town officials to small business owners and classmates — all remembering a young man whose music carried the heart of his community.
