MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — Berkeley County officials are encouraging women veterans across the area to participate in a new statewide survey aimed at identifying challenges facing one of the nation’s fastest-growing veteran populations.

The South Carolina Women Veterans Survey, promoted this week by the county’s Veterans Affairs Office, seeks feedback from women who served in every military branch, era and rank. Officials say the survey is designed to better understand the experiences of women veterans and improve access to services and resources statewide.

County officials said the survey will help identify barriers involving healthcare, employment, benefits navigation and the transition back into civilian life.

“Women veterans are one of the fastest-growing veteran populations,” the county said in a social media announcement, noting that many still face unique challenges after military service.

The survey asks participants a range of questions about military background, reintegration into civilian life and access to support systems. Among the questions included are whether veterans live in rural or urban areas, what branch of service they served in, why they chose to live in South Carolina and whether they experienced major challenges transitioning out of the military.

Participants are also asked to identify areas that proved difficult during their return to civilian life, including employment, healthcare access and other support services.

Officials say gathering more responses will provide state and local leaders with stronger data to advocate for expanded programs and targeted resources for women veterans.

The county is urging all women veterans in South Carolina to participate, regardless of age, military experience or background, saying every response can help shape future improvements.

According to federal data, women veterans remain one of the fastest-growing segments of the veteran population nationwide, leading many states and veteran organizations to expand outreach and support programs tailored specifically to their needs.
