BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. — Berkeley County residents looking to celebrate Independence Day won’t have to travel far this year.
Communities across the county are planning fireworks displays, live music, family activities, food vendors and patriotic celebrations as Americans mark the nation’s 250th birthday on July 4.
From large-scale community festivals in Moncks Corner and Goose Creek to small-town celebrations in Jamestown and neighborhood events in Hanahan and Cane Bay, there will be no shortage of red, white and blue festivities throughout the holiday weekend.
Moncks Corner Celebrates America’s 250th Birthday
One of the county’s largest celebrations will take place at the Moncks Corner Regional Recreation Complex on July 4.
The Town of Moncks Corner’s Independence Day Celebration will run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the event field at 130 Jenkins St.
Organizers promise food trucks, vendors, live entertainment and a fireworks display. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the festivities.
The event is part of nationwide celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Goose Creek’s Annual Tradition Returns
The City of Goose Creek will host its annual “Fabulous Fourth in the Creek” celebration on July 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the municipal complex on North Goose Creek Boulevard.
The free event will feature live music, a DJ, food vendors, adult beverage vendors and activities for children, including face painting, crafts and bubbles.
Fireworks are expected to begin around 9 p.m.
City officials say shuttle service will be available from the Westview schools, and attendees are encouraged to carpool due to anticipated crowds.
Jamestown Plans Family-Friendly Celebration
The Town of Jamestown will kick off the holiday festivities a day early on Friday, July 3.
The town’s Fourth of July Celebration will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Jamestown Recreation Park, located at 7604 Highway 41.
Families can enjoy inflatables, games, activities and food trucks before a fireworks finale scheduled for 9 p.m.
The fireworks show is sponsored by Hell Hole Inc.
Cane Bay Event Combines Food, Shopping and Family Fun
Residents in the Cane Bay area can attend the Old Rice Retreat Fourth of July Party on Friday, July 3, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Old Rice Retreat Pavilion located at 308 Iveson Rd. in Summerville.
The event will feature food trucks, local vendors, family activities and shopping opportunities. Attendees will also find collectible card vendors offering Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, One Piece and other gaming merchandise.
Organizers say the event is designed to provide a family-friendly atmosphere where residents can gather before the Independence Day weekend.
Golf Carts Roll Through Hanahan
Patriotic decorations will be on full display in Hanahan during the Eagle Landing community’s 250th Anniversary Golf Cart Parade on July 4.
The parade begins at 10 a.m., with participants lining up at 9:45 a.m. at Advent Lutheran Church at 1601 Eagle Landing Dr.
Decorated golf carts will travel through the Eagle Landing neighborhood before concluding at Venice Park.
Planning Ahead for the Holiday
With large crowds expected at many events, organizers recommend arriving early, bringing lawn chairs, blankets and plenty of water.
Many celebrations will feature outdoor activities during the summer heat, making hydration and sun protection important considerations for attendees.
