MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — A 26-year-old man is facing multiple charges after deputies say he assaulted a law enforcement officer and made threats to kill him during an arrest at a Moncks Corner gas station.
Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office officials said the incident unfolded April 29 at a Parker’s gas station on North Highway 52, where deputies were responding to a trespassing complaint.
According to Sheriff Duane Lewis, the suspect — identified as Malik Torez Evans of Family Lane — had called 911 himself, reportedly stating he was homicidal. Dispatchers also advised responding deputies that Evans had previously been issued a trespass notice for the property.
Authorities said Evans had been released from the Hill-Finklea Detention Center just one day earlier.
When deputies arrived, they confirmed the active trespass warning and informed Evans he was under arrest. Investigators say Evans then attempted to flee and struck a deputy in the face in an effort to escape.
A brief struggle followed before deputies were able to gain control and take Evans into custody.
Following his arrest, Evans allegedly made multiple threats against the deputy, including statements that he would kill him upon release and shoot him with a firearm for taking him to jail, according to authorities.
Evans has been charged with trespassing, resisting arrest with assault on a law enforcement officer and threatening the life of a public official. He was transported to the Hill-Finklea Detention Center.
