MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — A Berkeley County man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison after pleading guilty to killing his wife, a 24-year-old Marine, inside her home in 2023.
Solicitor Scarlett A. Wilson announced that 38-year-old Trivelle Fowler entered guilty pleas to murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime moments before opening statements were set to begin in court.
Judge Christopher D. Taylor handed down the 45-year sentence.
“Moncks Corner Police Department gave us an excellent investigation,” Wilson said in a statement. “This is yet another case of unhinged domestic violence.”
Authorities said Adiarylis Cintron Fowler was shot to death by her husband on May 27, 2023. Investigators determined she suffered gunshot wounds to her back and neck and died at the scene inside her Berkeley County home.
According to prosecutors, the couple had been married for about two years before the killing. Evidence presented by the state showed the victim had separated from Fowler earlier that month and moved into her own home with her three children.
Investigators said cellphone records revealed Fowler repeatedly attempted to reconcile with his wife despite her resistance.
On the day of the shooting, prosecutors said Fowler visited the home under the pretense of wishing Adiarylis a happy birthday and taking her to lunch. Cellphone location data later showed him leaving and returning to the residence multiple times throughout the day.
Authorities also uncovered evidence suggesting an attempt was made to conceal the crime. Prosecutors said the victim’s body had been dragged toward the back door and towels were used in an effort to clean blood from the scene and cover the body.
Following his arrest, Fowler admitted to investigators that the couple had argued about the victim moving on and potentially seeing other men, according to court documents. He also admitted to dragging her body and attempting to clean the scene before leaving.
Witness statements and surveillance footage from a nearby home placed Fowler at the residence during the time of the killing, prosecutors said. Investigators also linked him to the crime through DNA and gunshot residue evidence.
The case was prosecuted by Special Counsel Kamila Szymczynska-Sas of the Special Victims’ Unit and Managing Assistant Solicitor Kawohi Morris.
Szymczynska-Sas praised the work of Detective Ashley Scarborough and thanked the victim’s family for their patience throughout the lengthy legal process.
The solicitor’s office described Adiarylis Cintron Fowler as “a proud Marine,” adding that her family had waited nearly three years for justice in the case.
