NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — A Moncks Corner woman is facing multiple drug charges after North Charleston police say they found suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine inside her vehicle during a patrol at a motel known for narcotics complaints.
According to the North Charleston Police Department, an officer was patrolling the Rodeway Inn on Ashley Phosphate Road around 1:05 p.m. on Saturday when he spotted a woman slumped over the steering wheel of a parked vehicle behind the property. The woman was identified as 48‑year‑old Tara Vaughn.
Police noted the officer had prior encounters with Vaughn earlier this year involving narcotics use.

When asked whether there were drugs or paraphernalia in the vehicle, Vaughn told the officer there were needles in the back seat. She retrieved a bag and handed it over, and officers reported finding needles, needle caps, cotton, and a blue substance inside.
Officers then asked Vaughn to step out of the vehicle and conducted a probable‑cause search.

Suspected fentanyl and meth found, police say
During the search, investigators found:
- A small brown envelope in the center console containing a clear plastic bag with approximately 0.75 grams of a white crystal‑like substance that field‑tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine
- A brown plastic bag containing about 0.17 grams of a blue powder‑like substance
- A folded note card containing approximately 0.26 grams of a blue rock‑like substance
Police say both blue substances field‑tested presumptive positive for fentanyl.
Charges and booking
Vaughn was arrested and charged with:
- Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl
- Possession of Methamphetamine
She was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center. The arrest occurred at 2311 Ashley Phosphate Road.
