Berkeley County To Celebrate “Carolina Days” with Revolutionary‑Era Events

Community honors America’s founding with performances, readings, and historical tributes leading up to Independence Day.

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — Berkeley County is set to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary of independence with a weeklong slate of “Carolina Days” events highlighting South Carolina’s Revolutionary War history and local patriot pride.

The celebration begins Thursday, June 25 at 4:30 p.m., with “Lafayette and the War for Independence,” a presentation by Joe Volpi, chairperson of Lafayette’s Bicentennial Tour of Our Nation, at the Daniel Island Library. On Saturday, June 27 at 1 p.m., award‑winning actor Chris Weatherhead will perform Rebecca Brewton Motte and the Revolutionary War at Old Santee Canal Park’s Interpretive Center in Moncks Corner.

Sunday’s 11 a.m. program, June 28, features a live reading of the Declaration of Independence by Revolutionary‑clad historian Jeff Neale at Moncks Corner United Methodist Church. The festivities culminate Saturday, July 4 at 6 p.m., when Neale returns to read the Declaration again to launch the Town of Moncks Corner’s Independence Day Festival at the Regional Recreation Complex Events Field.

By July 4, Berkeley County will also unveil new Patriots’ Memorial signage at Revolutionary Park at Epson Plantation Drive, honoring local heroes who fought for freedom.
