MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — One of Berkeley County’s most colorful cultural events is returning next month as the Swedish Midsummer Festival comes back to Cypress Gardens on Saturday, June 13. Presented by Volvo Cars, the celebration runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will take place rain or shine at 3030 Cypress Gardens Road.
Midsummer — or Midsommar — marks the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, and is one of Sweden’s most beloved traditions. The festival celebrates the return of light after the long Nordic winter, and Cypress Gardens will bring that spirit to life with a traditional maypole, flower crowns, food trucks, kids’ activities, and a DJ. The first 100 visitors will receive a free flower crown, a signature part of the celebration.
The event also aligns with Free Saturday for Berkeley County residents, offering complimentary admission from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (last entry at 4 p.m.) with proof of residency.
Volvo’s Growing Footprint in Berkeley County
Volvo Cars opened its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Berkeley County in 2018. The Ridgeville plant produces the fully electric EX90 SUV and Polestar 3, with plans to add the XC60 mid-size SUV by the end of 2026. The facility employs around 2,000 workers and can produce up to 150,000 vehicles annually.
