GOOSE CREEK, S.C. — The NAACP Goose Creek Branch is inviting residents to celebrate Juneteenth through art, culture and community engagement during a special mural experience planned for later this month.
The branch’s “Our Freedom. Our Story.” Juneteenth Community Mural Experience will take place Sunday, June 21, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Goose Creek Graffiti Park, located at 104 Red Bank Road. The event is being held in partnership with the City of Goose Creek Recreation Department and Cultural Arts Commission.
Organizers say the free event will offer community members of all ages an opportunity to commemorate Juneteenth while helping create a collaborative mural that reflects the community’s shared history, experiences and aspirations.

Community Art Project at the Center of Celebration
Led by local artist Daniel Green, the mural project will serve as the centerpiece of the event, allowing participants to contribute their own creative expressions to a public work of art inspired by the themes of freedom, resilience and progress.
The event’s theme, “Our Freedom. Our Story.,” is intended to honor the legacy of Juneteenth while encouraging residents to share their perspectives and experiences through art.
More Than a Mural
In addition to the community mural, attendees can enjoy cultural performances, live music, food trucks, face painting, treats from 4DPugh Treats and a Juneteenth-themed photo station.
Organizers hope the event will create opportunities for fellowship while highlighting the historical significance of Juneteenth and its continued relevance today.
“Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and progress,” said Sharina Haynes, president of the NAACP Goose Creek Branch. “This event provides an opportunity for our community to come together, learn from our history, celebrate our culture, and create something meaningful that reflects who we are and where we are going.”
Honoring a Historic Milestone
Observed annually on June 19, Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas learned they had been freed, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
Organizers said the Juneteenth flag will be prominently featured throughout the event as a symbol of freedom, new beginnings and the ongoing pursuit of equality and justice.
Admission is free and open to the public, and no registration is required.
