BONNEAU, S.C. – Authorities have arrested a 52‑year‑old man in connection with a deadly hit‑and‑run that killed a Moncks Corner woman along North Highway 52 more than two months ago.
Cpl. Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed that Rodney Dozier has been charged with hit and run involving death following the Feb. 27 collision that claimed the life of Jeaniettra Avonne Jones, 34.
Court records show he had no prior charges in Berkeley County prior to the crash.
The crash happened around 2:18 a.m. when a vehicle struck Jones as she was walking along Highway 52 and then fled the scene, according to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene from her injuries, Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell said.

Dozier appeared in court on May 14, where a judge set his bond at $50,000. He’s since been released from the detention center in Moncks Corner.
Authorities have not released additional details about how investigators identified Dozier as the suspected driver.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene in late February, including the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, Berkeley County EMS, North Berkeley Fire & Rescue, the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol’s Multi‑disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).
The investigation remains ongoing.
